400 underprivileged children, observed independence day today 1

Shillong: While the whole country was celebrating the 73rd year of Independence, the underprivileged and deprived children too came forward to observe the Day with so much joy and happiness.
The objective was basically to empower them with Education which is believed to be the key to unlock the Golden Door of Freedom and ensure a Childhood free from Abuse, Exploitation and Neglect. The effort was to give them the Freedom to Dream.

The children participated today, comprised of rag pickers, domestic helpers, working children, street children, slum children, school drop-outs, cow boys, and other under-privileged children from East Khasi Hills District and Ri-Bhoi District.

There were more than 400 children attended the programme in all the centres of SPARK namely Motphran, Mawlong Village, Mawlynrei Village, Pongkung Village and Rangmen Village.

The highlights of the programme were hosting of the National Flag, singing of National Anthem, and other cultural activities performed by the children.

Ms. Shima Modak, President & Founder of SPARK sensitized the children on the essence of the day and encouraged for their active participation in the building up of the Nation.

Secondly, the children from SPARK also participated in the “At Home” programme organized by the office of the Governor of Meghalaya.
