Shillong: Yesterday the 5th December the Khasi Jaintia Presbyterian Assembly observed the 50th anniversary of the return of the Welsh Missionaries to their homeland in 1969 leaving the complete ecclesiastical management to the natives. The Anniversary was observed with a one-day Seminar at the Mawlai Presbyterian Church.
The Seminar was attended by male and female delegates from the two Synods (KJPSS and KJPSM) and invitees from the Ribhoi Synod. The paper presentation on the first session was given by Rev. Dr. B. L. Nongbri on the topic: Presbyterian Church in Khasi Jaintia Since the Departure of Missionaries Till Date (1969-2019)”. The second was on the topic: “Vision and Goal of the Presbyterian Church in Khasi Jaintia Hills in the Period of Change” and the resource person is Rev. Dr. S. Hayong.
Dr. Nongbri encapsulates a self-analysis for the church over these past fifty years of standing on their own feet; the miles achieved and trajectories trodden. He underlines the need to further enrich this rich heritage of church history and challenge for even stronger commitment to fulfill the multifaceted mission ahead.
