6 Villagers vowed to continue the “Save Brichyrnot” fight 1

Shillong: 6 Villages known as Wah Lukha Association in collaboration with the Umkiang village Durbar, Pyrtakuna, KSU Jaintia Hills District unit and United Hynniewtrep Movement (UHM) yesterday called on the Deputy Commissioner (DC) East Jaintia Hills District Shri FM Dopth over the 19th October, 2019 Public Hearing that was foiled concerning the mining expansion plan by Star Cement at Brishyrnot covering an area of 42.051 Hectares.

While the DC worked hard to explain the logic of setting up Cement Factory as a means of employment for the people, the Association through its president Bah Womsar Talang states clearly that they are firm on their resolve to save the environment continuing their protest to the mining extension plan.
He was joined by the Secretary of Sonapyrdi village, Bah Daiapherbha Lamare also Secretary of the Association who gives all the reasons behind the protest.

The DC asked them to select leaders as members to the special committee that will be set up to monitor the rejuvenating schemes of the Lukha river if the mining extension is to go on as planned.
