70 metric tonnes plastic waste collected: CM 1

Shillong: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma today place a wreath on the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in front of the Meghalaya Secretariat, Shillong to commemorate the 150th Gandhi Jayanti Day in the state.


Speaking on the occasion the Chief Minister challenge all citizens of the state with patriotism and self-sacrifice for the betterment of the nation inspired by the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.


The Chief Minister also take this opportunity to encourage the people to join in the movement against plastic waste for a cleaner and better environment. He also informed that the plastic waste collected in the cleaning drive today so far from all around the state reached 70 metric tons which is a gigantic amount. This he said, will be handed over to Dalmia Cement Company who under the supervision of the Meghalaya Pollution Control Board will recycle it to energy.
He also remind how the government has taken small and effective steps to lead by example when it brings back a culture of glass water bottle in the fight against plastic waste.
