Shillong: Government come and go but is just a shadow. No government is serious about the people’s cry for ILP in the State. Therefore, the Confederation Of Meghalaya Social Organisation (COMSO) today organized a Big Rally at Motphran to pressurize the Conrad K. Sangma Government into action, that is to say yes to ILP.
Speaking at the rally the Chairman of COMSO Bah Robert June Kharjahrin, condemn the adamant attitude of the Government in relation to bringing ILP in the state. He said, “the cry for ILP is not the wish of NGOs alone but the resolution of the High level Commitee of Influx tabled by Bah Bindo M Lanong adviser of UDP in 2012. Now the UDP is in the government, what ketpt it from fulfilling its own adviser’s dream! This is nothing but a total disrespect to this veteran state leader” He further said, “the government promised to first study the matter in depth, but now two years passed, yet no action”. He concludes “it is time for action Now “
The moot point in demanding ILP is to safeguard undocumented or illegal entry into the state, he explained. Permitted duration of stay should be limited not beyond 129 days. Anyone staying more than permitted limit should attract punishment. ILP also is for the purpose of safeguarding land transfer system to outsiders.
Kharjahrin appeals to other NGOs as well to join hands together in pressurizing the government to enforce ILP in the state.
