Allegation of Christian vandalism refuted, Kongthong leaders clears the air 1

Shillong: LRO spread rumours on social media alleging Christians of vandalizing Seng Khasi Kongthong religious place on the 27th of May, 2019.
Kongthong village elders express shock and rejected this allegation and felt the need to also clarify on many misleading points.

First, they said, the religious place in question belongs to the Raid Kongthong and never to Seng Khasi Kongthong.

Second, they said that the incident on the 27th May, 2019 is on the matter of the Raid. The Raid Kongthong on 25th of May 2019 under the leadership of the Sirdar Sylloklang Majaw carried out a fencing work round the Niangpyrhai ground on learning that Kanol Majaw plans to do some puja activities. Despite the fencing, Kanol Majaw and his group carry out the puja on the 27th May, 2019 at 4pm claiming they are doing it on behalf of the Raid. Seeing this, the Sirdar and the people thronged in the area and removed all the puja materials that was placed. The timely arrival of the magistrate Sohra Civil Sub-Division and police of Sohra Police Station under the SDPO Sohra Sub-Division brought the conflict under control.
The magistrate summoned both sides, the Kanol Majaw group and the Sirdar Sylloklang Majaw group. The puja activity in that contested area was put in abeyance after both sides agreed.
The Report from the village elders also says that as per tradition of the Raid Kongthong religious activities of rites and rituals used to be done under the leadership of the Sirdar of the Raid who acts as per advice of the Raid durbar. The Sirdar is the one elected by the Raid and recognized by the Office of the Syiem of Sohra.
Thus, Kanol Majaw is a self-styled Sirdar without any legal recognition from the District Council. The village elders includes, Bah Tdim Lynrah, Bah Jopthiaw Pohnong, Bah Prek Khongji, Bah Buin Riahtam, Bah Khrieh Riahtam, Bah Head Riahtam.
