Shillong: Joining the rest of the country Meghalaya government celebrate teacher’s day in a function at State Central Library, Shillong in which Education Minister Mr. Lakmen Rymbui was the Chief Guest. What makes this year’s celebration peculiar is that it is adorned with black ribbons teachers protesting outside the venue.
Speaking on the occasion the minister pay tribute to teachers for their dedication and valuable service to the nation. Regarding the protest by deficit teachers, he said it is their right to voice their demands and it is the duty of the government to look into their needs. As far as his government is concern he said it is committed to bring smile on every teachers. Regarding the hurdles facing the teachers the minister said he will see that it will bring to a permanent solution. Therefore, he appeal to all the teachers to bear with him.
One of the demands in the list by teachers (KJDSTA and GHDSTEA) is to release the Arrear due to them and also that salary should be paid monthly not once in three months. The president of KJDSTA Kular Khongjirem also said that the teachers do not want to be in a confrontation mode with the government but their needs also should be heard and taken seriously by the authority in compliance with the 5th Pay
