Shillong: Apart from Kongthong there are still 22 more villages under 12 Shnong range which nurtured the same tradition of parents calling their children by using not a name but a whistling tune attached to each of their offsprings.
The twenty-two villages are not happy if the Prime Minister Narendra Modi recognised only Kongthong. It may be mentioned that the Prime Minister came to know about such a tradition only recently through the visit of the BJP MP Shri Rakesh Sinha to Kongthong.
The MP brought this to the knowledge of the entire Indian Parliament recently. It is a fact that villages in the 12 Shnong area including Kongthong were known to have developed and nurtured this tradition of whistling to call their children playing outside or wherever they are. These villages are located in the valley of Wahrew and Wahkhen. This was confirmed by the Sordar (Sirdar) of Warbah, Budlang Mawpat while addressing the press conference in the city. To confirm this one lady Teh Khongsit sang in a whistling tune to welcome the people of Khrang Village in the Room of the Shillong Press Club. Other Villages which practice the same tradition are Pdei, Khrang, Mawshuit, Mawmang, Puhbsein, Thangtim, Warbah, Sder, Mawsohmat, Myiong, Tluh, Nongbah Mawshuit, Mawtongreng, Dewiong, Langsteng, Pdang, Thangkyrta, Jarain, Mawbawein, Rymmai, Mawshken and Sohkynduh.
