Archery competition in memory of Late Fr Sngi

Shillong: To commemorate and celebrate the legacy of Late Fr. S. Sngi Lyngdoh the St Joseph Socio- Cultural Organization Laitkor Parish today organized a socio-cultural event that is, the Archery, Mawpoin and kynting Mawsan Compettion in the community Playground of Laitkor. The event is graced by the presence of Fr Bernas Mawrie, Fr Festus Shadap Parish Priest Laitkor, bah Lambor Malngiang local MLA who is also the chief guest and many others.


Speaking on the occasion, Fr Barnes Mawrie said, “ this competition of traditional sports loved by the Khasi people is a fitting tribute to Late Fr. Sngi.” “Fr Sngi Lyngdoh is one who showed much respect and deep love to his own culture in various dimensions.” This, he said, “is a perfect model for us today to emulate from the life of this great son of the soil.”


This event is the second of its kind and it is organized once a year.
The Chief Guest, Bah Lambor Malngiang in his speech said, “I will never forget the words of Fr. Sngi which he said, ‘You are born with unique abilities to do something great and worthwhile for your own nation. “ Malgniang therefore urged the people to use their potentials, develop work ethics and imbibe high moral values so that the nation will be developed and prosperous.
Prizes were awarded in various ranks and categories: in archery, the first prize amounts to rupees 25,000, the second to rupees 8000. In the single category the first prize amounted rupees 10000 while the second rupees 4000. In the kynting mawsan game the first prize received rupees 3000 while the second, rupees 1000. In the Mawpoin category the first prize winner got rupees 5000 and the second, rupees 2000.
