Shillong: Safety, Security, Connectivity and Availability On the Road is the need at all times for commuters. The Government of Meghalaya today through the Commissioner of Transport to the knowledge of all has released its Press Release on stringent transport rules enforced in the State to ensure safe, secure and better commuting experience to commuters. The followings are the rules:
- No Parking of vehicles along the National Highways in the state except on bye-lanes/parking areas identified by NHAI.
- No vehicles will ply without Number Plate and High Security Registration Plate as per Rule 50&51 of the Motor Vehicle Rule, 1989 a violation of which will attract penalty as per Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 as Amended.
- Taxi Owner’s/Driver’s must ferry passengers as and when asked for, within the Permitted Seating Capacity and must not overcharge beyond prescribed Rates by Government. Any violation of these rules will attract penalty as per Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 as Amended which is tantamount to Cancellation/Suspension of Permit and Driving Licenses of the offender.
- Goods Carriage Vehicles (LMV) Owners/Drivers within the State of Meghalaya must not carry beyond Permissible Load Capacity as registered with the Office of the District Transport Officer and for a violation of which will attract penalty as per Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 as amended.
