Nongstoiñ: It must be reminded that the Shylla led KHADC passed the Clan Bill 2018 which is now at the Governor’s table. Enlivening the importance of the Bill yesterday the President Synjuk Ki rangbah Kur ka Bri u Hynniewtrep Bah Herman Nongrum and Genl. Secretary Bah Aristotle Lyngdoh in a meeting at MECOFED Hall, Nongstoiñ West Khasi Hills District. Gave a detailed explanation of the Bill for all to understand.
The meeting was attended also by a great number of Rangbah Kur from villages in the district. Explaining the Bill, Lyngdoh said that ILP will serve as a guarding border wall but Clan Bill will protect from within against any viruses infiltrating the clan system. He also emphasised the need to protect and maintain matrilinealism inherited from the past in all its sacredness.
On this day the branch of Clan association ‘Synjuk Kur’ was also instituted in which the office bearers and members were installed by the President Bah Herman Nongrum. The Association is christened, “Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur West Khasi Hills”.
Speaking in the function Nongrum said, to have a synjuk is very essential to systematically protect the clan customs and traditions and strengthen its administration.
Other speakers includes Bah R.L Kharpran, Vice President, Bah M.Nongrem District President SKRK South West Khasi Hills, bah Manhun Thabah, Bah Macmillan Kharbani, and Bah P.W Myrthong
The office bearers of the newly formed Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur of West Khasi Hills bah Boldness Nongum as President, Bah T. Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi and Bah Manhun Thabah as Vice President and the post of General Secretary goes to bah Macmillan Kharbani, Joint Secretay Bah R.S Khardewsaw and Bah P.W Myrthong, Tresurer Bah Blassing Marngar and members of the Executive Committee were also selected. The Synjuk selects two Advisers Bah Witting Mawsor ex-MLA and Bah Srally Rashir Sirdar Shnong New Nongstoiñ.
One of the main resolution taken is to appeal to all the clans to have their respective Seng Kur and to seek recognition from the Law. The meeting also laments over rising cross cultural marriage, teenage pregnancy and drug menace affecting the society.
