Shillong: Once again the HYC Ri Bhoi District has reminded the Mawhati MLA, Dasakhait Lamare to immediately withdraw his demand for ST Status for Tiwa or Lalung tribes.

Recently the Mawhati MLA has said that granted ST status to Tiwa or lalung tribes will not affect the job reservation policy of Khasi Jaintia and Garo. The HYC throught its General Secretary Hercules Suting reminded the MLA that granting ST Status will not end only in reservation policy, the MLA should know that after granting ST Status they are eligible to buy lands under the Meghalaya Land Transfer Act, they will get the benefit from the center, they will get 44% job policy from the center for Grade –C and D in Meghalaya.
He further said once they get get their ST Status they are free from income tax, Right to Vote and contested MDC under the ADC rules, Free from Trading by Non-Tribal Act in the District Council. Just that they are staying for so long, it does not meant they are entitled for every right, and The MLA will demand for Non Tribal and Bangladehi for ST Status just beceause they are staying for so long in Ri Bhoi?
