Shillong: The Empower Committee on Women of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly summons the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police (DGP) along with other departments to discuss on stringent measures to tackle sexual harassment of women in the state.
Speaking to media persons kong Ampareen Lyngdoh, MLA and chairperson of the Committee, said that in East and West Garo, infant and mothers mortality rate is very high. In West Garo Hills alone more than hundred cases within six months is reported due to anemic conditions. Problems faced by women and children ranged to teenage pregnancies which is high. Many of them failed to get registered in MHIS-IV for Smart Card to avail benefits. POSCO related cases gets bails easily.
Meanwhile, bah HM Shangpliang a Committee member draws the attention of the government towards the need to set up rehabilitation centres for drug addicts in every districts. Such centres run by private agencies are too expensive and distant.
