Shillong: The English and Foreign Languages (EFL) University, Shillong Campus today observed the Fit India Movement at its Campus. The celebration was flagged off with the screening of the live broadcast of the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi launching the movement at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, New Delhi on the occasion of the National Sports Day.
With the slogan ‘When body is fit, mind is hit’, the celebration started off with the ‘fitness pledge’ taken by all the students, faculty members and the non-teaching staff to devote time to physical activities and sports; pledging oneself and encouraging near and dear ones to stay fit. Later, starting from the EFL University Campus, a ‘10,000 steps’ walk inside NEHU was led by the Director In-Charge, Prof. T. K. Bamon and was actively participated by everyone.
Earlier, Prof. A.K. Mishra, explained the participants the concept of the Fit India Movement and summarized PM Modi’s speech highlighting the concept of physical and mental fitness that is inherent within our cultural activities such as dances and other art performances. He also implored how the overdependence on technology had affected our physical and mental health.
As part of the movement, the EFL University Shillong campus also initiated a ‘fitness plan’ under which sports and other physical activities will be organised for students, members of the faculty and non-teaching staff. Further, they will be encouraged to take a walk daily and exercise. Under the plan, yoga, basketball, badminton, volleyball, cricket and table tennis will be held regularly during the semester.
