Government determined to fight HPC at Supreme Court

Shillong: The MDA government is determined to fight in the Supreme Court against the petition by Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) over the ‘Them Iewmawlong’ issue.


This was stated by the Chairman High Level Committee (HLC) Dy. Chief Minister bah Prestone Tynsong after the sitting of the HLC a Committee constituted solely for this issue.


An Affidavit will be filed at the Apex Court within ten to twelve days he said.
It may be reminded that the Harijan Panchayat Committee has filed an FIR against the state government over the accounting of residents in this area the Them Iew Mawlong as well as against the Meghalaya High Court Ruling in favour of the government. The High Court also directs the HPC to give full cooperation to the government by submitting all relevant documents to the SMB.
The Supreme Court has reguired the Meghalaya government to file an affidavit in this regard within three weeks. Tynsong also said that the residents of the said area have not cooperated with the SMB even after the expiry date that is, the 30th August 2019.
