Shillong: After the Government of Assam released the list, a total of 19 lakhs people in Assam have been excluded in the final list of the NRC. A delegation of HYC members met the State DGP on Tuesday to apprise him of the problems of illegal influx.
The HYC Chief, Robert Kharjarin said that, they have requested the DGP to increase manpower in the Anti-Infiltration Branch.
“Meghalaya is a Safe Haven for Them” He said that people excluded will eye other states to ensure their rights as citizens of India, with the fact that here, there is no ILP system in force, that is why Meghalaya are the first victim of NRC, Kharjahrin said. In a memorandum to the DGP, the HYC demanded 24×7 check gate on every road in the inter-state and international border. He added that durbar shnong has a big role to play by maintaining registers to new residents and submit to the OC/IC of their respective police station.
