Shillong: The Meghalaya Joint Action Committee (MJAC) today demands the resignation of the Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma if the coal issue is not fixed. This decision was taken in the presence of and with consultation of coal mine owners at 7-Mile, West Jiantia Hills District.
Bah Erwin K Syiem Sutnga, president of MJAC, said in the meeting that the state government did not pay any attention ever since the Supreme Court ruling on the 3rd of July, 2019. Nor did it come out with any action on the subject for the past six months. Therefore, on this indifference MJAC will file complaint again in the Supreme Court against the government.
On the government’s claim of its submission of the report on coal to the NGT weighing 32 lakh metric tons Sutnga urged that the challan be shared with the public.not to only the selected few.
Bah Erwin appeal the public to come out in support of the protest against the government on the 17th of this month also to join in the meeting in the office of the Director Minerals Resources in Khliehriat.
It was NPP’s election manifesto that coal issue will be sorted out but the party’s failure irked the public all the more.
