  • If NRC is to be implemented, the cut-off year must be 1972: Paul 1

Shillong: UDP Working President bah Paul Lyngdoh said that if the Centre is to implement the NRC in Meghalaya, the cut-off year must be 1972 the year in which Meghalaya got statehood. The aim of introducing NRC is to check and curb illegal immigration.

speaking today, bah Paul said that the Centre already announced that NRC will be in action in the whole country and in the North East it will come along with the Ordinance MRSSA as a strong safeguard for the indigenous people.

On the opposition of the Congress for the NRC bah Paul said, it is the opinion of the party because NRC was an old issue since 1951 when Meghalaya was still under Assam. But now that Meghalaya got its own statehood, the NRC should also begin from this date that is 1972 as the cut-off year.
