
Shillong: The Central Puja Committee yesterday organized an interfaith prayer meeting at Aurobindo Hall, Shillong before Durga Puja season. It could be seen that religious leaders of different faiths gathered together for the prayer. This is to foster religious harmony and harmonious coexistence.
The Chief Minister also was present and gave a speech lauding the effort of bringing together all faith communities to foster the spirit of oneness, mutual respect and common wellbeing. He said, the meeting of this kind is exemplary to India as a whole.
He also said that Mahatma Gandhi left a legacy for following generations to love one’s own country and care for it. in today’s context, the country is facing difficulties from a disrespect of nature. therefore, he appealed to the people to follow the footsteps of Gandhi who himself led by example.
at the same time, the Chief Minister assured the people of Hindu faith a safe and secure Durga Puja.
Prior to this a speech was given by honorable MP Ma Vincent H Pala who also expressed happiness at the very idea of an interfaith gathering such as this. He also said that this type of gathering is not unknown in Shillong. People have started this tradition since past years to which he was part of.
