
Shillong: The Executive Member Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Bah Mitchel Wankhar has said that the Council has prepared to ask financial help from the centre to promote fishery under the jurisdiction of the council.
“Till now the State has to depend upto 70/75 percent the fish from outside the State like Andhra Pradesh, Assam and others” Said Bah Mitchel.
Bah Mitchel also said that the demand of fish is not less than 20 or 25 tones in one day in Khasi and Jaintia Hills, but the Council is facing problem to promote fishery because of financial constraint and also we don’t’ have any employee and even a Fishery Officer we don’t’ have.
Recently, Bah Mitchel met the Union Minister of State, Pratap Chandra Sarangi to apprise him about financial help to promote fishery in the District and also to build the training center. We will try to get help from the centre and also from the National Fish Development Board, Fish Farmers Development Agency (FFDA), so that we will promote fishery and also to give employment to the youth said the EM.
