Shillong: The Khasi Student Union today shut down the ICFAI University, Shillong to compel this institution’s authority to take necessary and immediate measures to ensure the safety and security of the students from Meghalaya studying in Tripura. It may be mentioned here that ICFAI established its institution in Shillong as well as in Tripura. Two days back, a brawl took place among students there in the ICFAI Tripura between students from Bengali community and from North East India.
Ever since, students are locked in hostels and tensed. They are not allowed to come out and felt very very unsafe. Students want to come back home but are prevented by authorities. This has also worried parents. Therefore, to compel the authorities to ensure safety and security of students, and to allow students to come back home, the KSU shut down the ICFAI Shillong because it is the same authority which govern both these institutions.
The General Secretary of KSU Donald Thabah said, “We shut down ICFAI Meghalaya because the authority seems to take things lightly over there at ICFAI Agartala. We do not have anything against this institution but we want the authority to respond seriously and urgently to this issue and to also allow students from Meghalaya to come back home.”
There are about 14 Khasi students and one Garo studying there at ICFAI Tripura.
