Shillong: The second Meghalaya Games after a gap of sixteen years kick started today the 17th of February at JN Stadium, Shillong organized by the Sports and Youth Affairs Dept. government of Meghalaya jointly with the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) at the anticipated expenditure of 1.3 crores of rupees. The Games will last till 21st of this month.

The Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma cuts the ribbon as a mark of opening in the presence of Sports Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh apart from working president of MSOA bah John F Kharshiing and sports persons which includes school students.

A total of 948 male and 565 female athletes will participate in the event in 14 games categories which includes archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, billiards & snooker, judo, karate, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwando, tennis, and, wushu.
It will be played in St Anthony’s School, JN Stadium, Polo, U Tirot Sing Indoor Stadium, Shillong Club, Nongthymmai Sports & Cultural Club, Laban Sports Club Indoor Stadium, Assam Regimental Centre and Crinoline Swimming Pool.

Of the 14 games, 8 will be played tomorrow that is, archery, basketball, boxing, billiards & snooker, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis and wushu.
the Chief Minister also today inaugurated the website of Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) and the postal stamp to celebrate the Meghalaya Games 2020.

In the Tennis played, Sanjeev Chettri defeats Toshan Singh Nongbet by 6-0,6-4 while Gideon D Shira beats Loomdingstone Kharsohnoh by 6-1, 6-2. Stardiness Kharsyntiew defeats Kitkupar Kharsohnoh by 6-1, 6-1.
in Women’s basketball, the West Jaintia Hills defeats North Garo Hills by 21-7, while boys of East Garo Hills beats South West Khasi Hills by 51-20. Females of South West Khasi Hills beats the women of West Garo Hills by 36- 25.
