
Shillong: According to the report of Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Meghalaya’s meat consumption is rising while the production is low so that meat has to be brought from outside the state. Director Dr. C. Shylla said that although this year the production is higher compared to last year still it cannot meet the demand.
According to the report by the Department Beef produced is 11,053 tons while 12,688 tons is brought from outside. Pork from the State is 13,390 tons and from outside is 1,024 tons, Chicken produced in the State is 2473 tons and from outside is 142 tons and Mutton that was brought from outside is 66 tons and the State produced 1282 tons.
Dr. Shylla also said that the Department issues the transit certificate and Health certificate at Baridua Check Point. He said that there are plans to set up more check points in other places also.
