Shillong (MMP): In rare coincidence coupled with divine providence, Meghalaya legislator, who represents Mawryngkneng Assembly Constituency, Deputy Chief Executive Member of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Pyniaid Sing Syiem and Mawlynrei Dorbar Shnong have come together to assist Jaiaw District Education Committee of the Presbyterian Church to the Rs.6. crore Mawlynrei Presbyterian Lower Primary School at Mawlynrei at the outskirt of Shillong.

      

While referring to unbridled development that is taking place at Mawlynrei area, Nongrum said unlike in other places, “population explosion takes place before development comes to the area and added that only co-operation that will ensure faster development in the area.

Nongrum laid the foundation of the new school building in the lush green pine trees and green grass in the presence of Syiem, who both vowed to see that the construction of the school building is completed at the earliest. In this noble endeavor to improve the quality of education in this semi-urban area of Mawlynrei, the Chief Guest on the occasion, David Nongrum announced that he will shell out from the MLA Scheme an amount of Rs.4.0 lakh for fencing the school’s compound before the construction work starts. He also assured the church and school authorities that he will sanction an of Rs.5.0 lakh every year from him MLA scheme. He informed that the state government is implementing many educational schemes with funding from the Asain Development Bank, but these cannot be implemented in the state due to lack of spacious land. Nongrum also made an ardent appeal to provide more land to the church and school authorities, so that bigger projects can be implemented in the area.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Executive Member of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, Pyniaid Sing Syiem informed that Mawlynrei area was already in the priority area of the Council for improvement of Education of this area. He also announced the good tidings that he has sanctioned an amount of Rs.10.0 lakh for the construction of the new school building an amount of Rs.40.0 crore from central funding the Council. Syiem also said the cooperation of the MLA, MDC, church and school authorities and the Dorbar Shnong Mawlynrei will usher faster development in the area.

The Church leader, F.J. Mairom, who is the Education Secretary of Jaiaw District of the Presbyterian Church informed that District is taking care of the nine churches for the spiritual well being of the faithful and the five schools under its care are being taken as its “Mission” for human development. He informed that the construction of the first phase of the school building will commence immediately and the total cost for construction is estimated at Rs.6.00 crore when completed. Mairom profusely thanked all those involved in the construction of the school building.

On the other hand, Mawlynrei Dorbar Shnong has gifted the land measuring 20,000 Sq. Feet to the Church and School authorities for the establishment of Mawlynrei Presbyterian Lower Primary School at Mawlynrei with a view of bringing faster development in the area. The day was marked with singing and break- dance performed by the students of the school.
