Shri FR Kharkongngor, CEO addressed newsmen on Monday evening

Shillong: Today the 21st October, 2019 Shella voted. 25191 voters turned up which is 84.56 percent: 12631 men and 12560 women.

According to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) bah F. R Kharkongor in total there are 58 polling stations within the constituency. In the 2018 election only 84.4 voted. Kharkongor confirmed that polling was peaceful in all.


Six candidates in the fray: bah Balajiedkupar Synrem UDP, bah Mosjo Rock Feller Wanswett PDF, kong Grace Mary Kharpuri (Ind), BJP’s bah Joshua Warjri, bah Komen Laitmon (Ind) and bah Batyngshain Ryngnga Congress.
Observers held that the straight fight seems to be in between Independent kong Grace Mary Kharpuri and Balajiedkupar Synrem UDP. But as election is unpredictable bah Mosjo Rock Feller Wanswett PDF might rock to the top. Only 24th will seal the fate whom to crown new MLA to the Shella Legislative Consituency.


Voting today starts from 7 AM to 5PM. Out of 29790 voters 25191 voted. Though it rains yet it does not last long.
Bah Kharkongor said that in this election two important messages spread to the public: the use of eco-friendly tools and the use of Skylo via Whatsapp effective even in zero-network area.
2 Polling Stations are manned only by police, women officers apart from a Model Polling Station and one polling booth for differently abled.
Meanwhile, 823.6 litres of liquor worth rupees 1.32 lacs was seized but not money. Polling booth with lowest turn-out is MESEB-MCCL with only 47.37 percent while Wah-u-tim with 92.86 percent as the largest. Kaletek a Polling Station that could be reached only by boat.
The CEO will be in Sohra tomorrow to oversee all preparation for counting day that is the 24th October, 2019.
