Prime Minister Narendra Modi today mourned the passing away of Rev. Domnic Jala, the Archbishop of Shillong.
Prime Minister tweeted he was anguished by the passing of the Archbishop. Mr Modi said the Rev. Domnic Jala will always be “remembered for his impeccable service to the society and for his passion towards Meghalaya’s Progress. May his soul rest in peace.”
Archbishop of Shillong Rev Domnic Jala, passed away in a car crash in California, United States on the 11th of October 2019.
He was ordained a priest for the Salesians of Don Bosco on November 19, 1977. He was the provincial of the congregation’s Guwahati province before he was appointed the archbishop of Shillong in December 1999.
Conrad Sangma, chief minister of Meghalaya has expressed his sincere condolence on the passing away of Archbishop Dominic Jala, who served as a priest for 41 years and as the Archbishop for almost two decades.
Conrad also said “Archbishop had a close relationship with my late father and my family and was a friend in our time of loss”. “He was a man of impeccable wisdom and guided me on several issues for the interest of our people” said the statement of Conrad Sangma.
“In this moment of grief and mourning, I on behalf of the people and the Government of Meghalaya convey our sincere and deepest condolences to all members of the bereaved Shillong Archdiocese, his friends and close associates family and pray that God Almight, grant the strength and fortitude to be able to bear the irreperable loss to our state” concluded the statement of Sangma.
The statement of Mukul Sangma, leader of opposition said “I am deeply shocked & saddened by the sudden demise of our beloved and most revered His Grace, Archbishop Dominic Jala, the Archbishop Of Shillong .Archdioceses”. He added “I , on behalf of myself and my family, convey our deepest condolences to the members and close relatives of the bereaved family and to all the members of Shillong Archdiocese. I pray that our Gracious Almighty God grant us all solace and the needed strength to overcome this irreparable loss and may the departed soul rest in in an eternal peace”.
“It is with astonishment and deep sadness that I received the information that Archbishop Dominic Jala, passed away in a road accident in USA.
Archbishop Jala offered and devoted the whole of his life as a wonderful witness to people through Jesus Christ” said the statement of Bah DD Lapang.
“The passing away of Archbishop Jala is a great lost to the Churches and the people of the State as a whole” the statement added. Bah Lapang, also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the member of the Salesian Brothers and family members of Archbishop Jala bad pray to Almighty God that the departed soul rests in eternal peace, with the certainty that the Good Shepherd has already welcome in to eternal life this generous and committed son of His flock.
