Shillong: Before the 28th January, 2020 the CEO Election Commission Meghalaya said Shella voters will go to vote their candidate, to fill the vacant seat left by the demise of Dr. Donkupar Roy.
The CEO Shri F. R Kharkongor said that the Election Commission of India was informed of the death of the legislator from this constituency and that it is the rule in such cases that bye election be conducted within six months.
Kharkongor also said that while he is yet to confirm any date but the election will take place before the end of six months’ time.
He said that Shella has 58 polling stations with 30 thousands voters. Some of the polling stations are in the interior which have to be reached on foot. One of such is Kalatek with 700 voters. Further, he added some of the stations also located in the borders with Bangladesh. For this he will soon have a meeting with the BSF.
In the last election voting was smooth and peaceful. He hopes for the same in the coming bye election. His team is more than prepared for the task and the machines sound saying, “We have the functioning EVM, VVPAT”
