Sister Julia N Majaw, no more 1

The family members of Late Sister Julia N Majaw, were informed today 4.30pm that Sister Julia N Majaw had passed away today (28th March 2020) at age 91, in Krishnanagar, Nadia District, West Bengal. Late Sister Julia N Majaw was the elder sister of Late Martin N Majaw, former Finance Minister of Meghalaya. Late Sister Julia’s other younger brother is living in Canada, North America.

Sister Julia N Majaw, born on 23rd May 1928 left Shillong for Krishnanagar, West Bengal, and joined the congregation of the Sisters of Mary Immaculate on 10th February 1950, and was one of the first batch of sisters to have joined the congregation.

She completed her doctorate in educational psychology in 1982 from New Delhi´s Jawaharlal Nehru University. She is one of the first few nuns to have completed her Phd from JNU Delhi in 1982 and in 1986 she became State coordinator for voluntary agencies in the successful implementation of a biogas scheme in rural areas of Meghalaya for which she was selected as a recipient and awarded the Meghalaya State Mahatma Gandhi Award in 1995.

Late Sister Julia N Majaw’s cousin Mrs Josephine Majaw, resident of Malki, and nephews Shri. Robert Kharshiing, former MP, Mrs A Kharshiing, Mr J F Kharshiing, Mr F Kharshiing and Mr M Kharshiing, unable to attend due to the Covid-19 Lockdown informs that Sisters from Krishnanagar have informed that the service and funeral will be held tomorrow at 9AM on 29-3 2020 in Krishnagar, West Bengal and the District Administration inview of the situation has allowed only 7 nuns for the funeral. Information and condolences have been sent to her brother living in Canada, North America.
