Amlarem: The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai in collaboration with Raid Buam Environmental Protection Association and the Civil Administration Amlarem Sub-Division organised a tree plantation and cleaning drive at Krangsuri today.
Speaking at the small programme, Smt. D. Sohtun, Secretary DLSA, West Jaintia Hills District, said the objective of the programme was to impart awareness on keeping tourist spots and public places clean with a special focus on environmental conservation in the region.
‘Many of us dispose off plastic waste without much thought of the implication that our actions can have on the environment. It is time we take it upon ourselves to reduce plastic use and also take the pledge to make Krangsuri a plastic free zone’, she said.
Smt. J. Kharpuri, SDO Amlarem, while thanking the students and teachers for active participation in the initiatives and programmes of the District administration, urged upon all stakeholders to be more proactive towards protection and conservation of the natural greenery around Amlarem. While highlighting the need for judicious and sustainable use of resources, she also exhorted the students to carry and spread the message of environmental conservation and protection to the people.
In addition the schools, the personnel from the forest and police departments also participated in the tree plantation and cleaning drive.
