Village members of Ratacherra adressed the media on Thursday.

Shillong: 106 families of Ratacherra village, East Jaintia Hiils District under the leadership of Bah Tihunmon Sumer and few others take on their own Headman Bah D Pohshna to the JHADC court on the sky rocketed village tax imposed on 2015 from 300, 200, 100 and 50 rupees to 3000, 2000, 1000 and 500 per annum.

This rise is unnatural they accused and the impact hurts especially families who are poor. despite their appeal in 2016 for reconsideration the Headman remains adamant. He even accused the villagers of trouble making and involving in anti-village activities. Tihunmon said that the protesting families want to know from the Headman on what basis will he justify for taking such drastic decision?

Speaking to the media persons today at the Shillong Press Club Bah Tihunmon Sumer informs that this stubborn attitude on the part of the headman compelled them to lodge their complaint to the CEM, JHADC and even to the Deputy Commissioner of the District.
