
Shillong: The “special Committee” headed by James K Sangma in charge of District Council Affair met today to look into all matters related to the Sixth Schedule Amendment Bill.
Speaking after the meeting, James K. Sangma who is also the Home minister Meghalaya government told news persons that all the members unanimously resolved to suggest the removal of the phrase “unpresented tribes” from the Presidential Order of Sixth Schedule amendment. This suggestion will be sent to the Standing Parliamentary Committee Rajya Sabha.
The minister also inform that the committee endorsed the point on the size of the Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council (KHADC), that is, 29 by election and 2 by nomination one from each gender.
In relation with JHADC the minister says a clear picture on the size of the Council is yet to evolve.
He also said that the term “Village Council” will be asked to remove because within the Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills there are Hima Dorbar, Raid Durbar and village durbar while in Garo Hills the term “Village Council” is to be retained because it has been accepted that way since 1948.
