
Shillong: Before medical science came to the hills, the people already managed with the art of midwifery. Villages would never find wanting of persons with such gift and compassion.
Umniuh Tmar’s octogenarian bah Radha Mawkhlieng is one of such indigenous gynaelogists the village ever trusted. For forty five years bah Mawkhlieng has rendered his generous contribution to the health of birth-giving women and newborn babies. His fame and kind contribution is felt by many within and beyond his village.
Umniuh Tmar is a village in the Riwar Pynursla region.
For long, such contribution is taken has not been acknowledged to the level needed. But in a better late than never gesture last Saturday prominent citizens of the Elaka, chose to meet bah Radha and felicitated him in recognition of his service.
From the signboard infront of his home at Nongrim within this Elaka, it is clear that he started this service since 1974. This traditional healer recorded all the cases he had treated annually. Within the period of forty five years bah Radha has treated successfully about 2,732 cases.
The legendary healer said that he got this talent from God and not through any training. Prior to his midwifery service he help people in massage and fixing dislocation caused by accidents.
It will be a befitting honour if the octogenarian healer is given senior citizens pension scheme.
Among those prominent members of the village who met the Hero healer were, bah Teibor Shabong, headman Nongrim bah Elbis Diengdoh and bah Monarch Shabong.
