Shillong: Opposition members take on the state government on a number of issues. Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh of Laitumkhrah constituency urged the government to diligently scrutinize which ST communities other than those of the state be given entry to any Autonomous Territorial Council. Lyngdoh urged the home minister to come with a clear list.
Responding to a query on who to include the minister replied “those who have not been represented” an answer that do not give satisfaction ro the House
It may be noted that the move to amend the Sixth Schedule got pending in the table of the Rajya Sabha Parliamentary Standing Committee but as soon as the Committee got its chairman.
Nevertheless, there is a need for the state government to come clear before time on every format and implications of the proposed amendment.
Showing his sincerity and seriousness on the matter the Chief minister Shri Conrad Sangma assured the House that any decision will be taken by the Assembly itself.
